Uncompahgre Plateau: If you’re looking to get up into higher altitudes and forested single track, the Uncompahgre Plateau is the place for you. There are trails for all different skill levels, that go on for miles and miles. The Plateau can reach up to 10,000ft+ in some areas, which means it is a great escape from the heat in the summer. Unlike Peach Valley, the Plateau boast tall pine and aspen trees, as well as some awesome creek crossings. This area also contains ride in/ride out primitive camping that is free of charge. Dry Creek Recreation Area : Dry Creek is an area located just west of Montrose. It’s at about 6,000ft, and offers rocky style singletrack that winds through some epic canyon scenery. This area is great to spend a day in, and offers some varied terrain compared to the other areas. The trails are rockier than Peach Valley, and have a feel that is reminiscent of Moab. The coolest part about riding in Montrose, is that all of these areas are located within an hour of each other. It is not uncommon to ride one of the desert style areas in the morning, head into town for lunch, and finish off the day up on the Uncompahgre Plateau to escape the heat of the afternoon.
